Summary

A probable common edge boundary and possibly contemporary field boundaries of medieval to post medieval date are visible as cropmarks on Google Earth aerial photographs from 2006. The ditch interpreted as a common edge boundary appears to correlate with the edge of Hoe Common as depicted on Faden’s 1797 Map of Norfolk.

Map

February 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project (volunteer strand).
A probable common edge boundary and possibly contemporary field boundaries of medieval to post medieval date are visible as cropmarks on Google Earth aerial photographs from 2006 (S1). The ditch interpreted as a common edge boundary, which forms a dog leg (situated to the east of Vale Farm Cottage) appears to correlate with a dog leg in the edge of Hoe Common as depicted on Faden’s 1797 Map of Norfolk (S2). Other linear ditches may define former field boundaries, but the cropmarks are less clear and could instead be of geological or modern origin.
