Map

February 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Soilmarks of probable medieval to post medieval field boundaries are seen on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The date of the features is unknown. However, a medieval to post medieval date for the features is suitable. It is also possible that the features may have related to multiple phases. Medieval to post medieval finds (NHER 20787, 20788 and 2089) recovered from field walking have been previously recorded from across the area. It has been suggested that the finds most likely indicate the site of medieval settlement. It is possible that some of the mapped features (particularly in the north of the area, centred at approximately TF 9084 1447) may have related to medieval settlement features rather than field boundaries. The long boundary bank and ditch (centred at approximately TF9083 1444) follows the alignment of the parish boundary between Fransham and Beeston with Bittering. It is therefore possible that the feature may have related to a post medieval parish boundary bank and ditch. The features are not recorded on the readily accessible historic maps (such as S2 and S3).
