Map

February 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Possible ridge and furrow of a post medieval date is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1945 and 1946 (S1-S4). Some of the ridge and furrow is visible as soilmarks on aerial photographs taken in 1971 (S5). The ridge in furrow is not visible on the latest available aerial photographs from 2022 (S6) as the area has been developed over and the features presumably levelled. The ridges are relatively straight and narrow (less than 5m wide), suggesting they are of post medieval rather than medieval date. However a medieval date for the features cannot be ruled out. The ridge and furrow can be seen in amongst areas of second world war huts associated with Wendling Airfield (NHER 7275) on the 1940s aireal photographs.
