Summary

During an evaluation of the proposed route of the A140 Long Stratton bypass in 2020 a range of unstratified finds were recovered, the bulk of which have no additional location information recorded. These poorly-located objects include Roman, Late Saxon/early medieval and medieval pottery sherds; a Roman pottery spindle whorl; Roman flue and roof tile fragments; a post-medieval brick fragment; undatable fired clay; a single piece of post-medieval clay tobacco pipe and a possible fragment of iron working waste (attached to burnt ceramic building material).

Evaluation of proposed route of A140 Long Stratton Bypass.
It is recorded that a range of unstratified finds were recovered from the 85 trenches excavated but unfortunately the report doesn't make it clear exactly what come from where. These poorly located find included:
Undated fired clay, animal bones and a possible fragment of iron-working waste (attached to a burnt piece of ceramic building material).
33 Roman pottery sherds, 1 flue tile, 1 tile and a pottery spindle whorl.
1 ?Roman tile fragment.
1 Late Saxon/medieval pottery sherd.
22 medieval pottery sherds.
1 post-medieval floor brick and 1 clay tobacco pipe fragment.
