Map

February 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Earthwork ditches, which may relate to possible medieval to post medieval field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1942 (S1) and 1946 (S2). The eastern features (centred at approximately TF 9055 1503) were presumably levelled when huts associated with Wending Second World War Airfield (NHER 7275 and 68043) were constructed over the area (visible on S2). The site is also under development on recent (2022) aerial photographs (S4), presumably levelling any surviving earthworks. The earthwork ditch in the west of the area (centred at TF 9048 1500) is not visible on visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2017 (S3) or on recent (2022) aerial photographs (S4), and has presumably been levelled. It is also possible that the features may have related to post medieval to modern drainage ditches. The features are not recorded on the readily accessible historic maps (such as S5).
