Summary

A watching brief maintained during the construction of a new carpark at this location in 2012 recorded no archaeologically-significant remains. It should though be noted that the associated groundworks were extremely shallow and did not reach the base of the topsoil layer.

July 2012. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of car park and erection of storage building.
Stripping of turf within the footprint of the carpark revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. The maximum depth of the excavations was though only 0.15m below present ground level, with only the topsoil layer disturbed (the base of which was not reached).
Finds were limited to an abraded prehistoric worked flint flake and a fragment of burnt flint.
