Full Description
March 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
A Second World War practice trench is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs (S1-S2). An adjacent arrangement of rectilinear banks (or possibly fences) may also relate to Second World War military activity. More recent aerial photographs from 2022 (S3) and visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2017 (S4) show that the earthworks have been levelled. A Second World War type 22 pillbox stood approximately 25m to the southwest of the site (NHER 29153), but this too has been removed.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 1 March 2024.
