Summary

Map

August 2018. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with erection of five new buttresses on east side of east wall of Abbeyfield allotments.
The five square pits excavated revealed no archaeologically-significant remains, although it should be noted that they were all relatively shallow, with only the modern garden topsoil disturbed.
The boundary wall itself dates to the mid 19th century and was probably erected at the same time as 57 The Close (NHER 26076) - the brickwork details and the polychrome effect of the west face echoing the style of this house (which was designed by J. H. Brown and erected in 1862).
