Summary

A section of earthwork bank with two associated flanking ditches of an uncertain date are visible as very low earthworks on visualised lidar data. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the features still survive. It is possible that the features may relate to a section of Roman road, a medieval to post medieval parish boundary or a post medieval field boundary.

A section of earthwork bank with two associated flanking ditches of an uncertain date are visible as very low earthworks on visualised lidar data (S2). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the features still survive. It is possible that the features may relate to a section of Roman road, a medieval to post medieval parish boundary or a post medieval field boundary. The feature follows the alignment of the Roman road recorded more broadly as NHER 2796. The earthworks also follow the alignment of the parish boundary between the parishes of great Dunham and Lexham. Finally, the features also follow the alignment of a post medieval to modern field boundary (now levelled) which is recorded on the readily accessible historic maps (such as S3) and visible as an extant feature on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S1).
