Full Description
March 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
A probable pond and/or quarry pit of unknown date is visible as an earthwork on visualised lidar data, from a survey flown in 2017 (S1). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is probable that the earthwork still survives. The feature lies within Vicarage Park (NHER 33465), close to both the moated site (NHER 2856 and 68076) and the former vicarage (NHER 46173). It may be an ornamental feature related to the associated gardens and park (NHER 33465), and/or a quarry pit relating to one of the building projects that took place here (S2). It is not depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S3), and therefore either pre-dates this or is of more recent, 20th century origin. Given that it overlies a field boundary depicted on the map, the latter is perhaps more likely.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 7 March 2024.
