Full Description
March 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Earthworks relating to a medieval to post medieval moated site (NHER 2856) are visible on visualised lidar data (S1) within Vicarage Park (NHER 33465). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017), it is probable that the earthworks still survive. The earthworks comprise a broadly square enclosure, which corresponds with the one depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S2). This is presumed to be the moated enclosure. Additional features to its east, which are only partially depicted on the Ordnance Survey map, could be part of an outer enclosure. There are not necessarily of medieval date but could be associated with the later park and gardens (NHER 33465).
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 7 March 2024.
