Full Description
March 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Multiple earthwork banks and ditches which most likely relate to probable parkland features, boundary banks and trackways are visible on aerial photographs and visualised lidar data (S1-S2). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the features still survive. The earthworks are most likely associated Lexham Hall (NHER 4089) and park (NHER 30469). The features most likely date to the post medieval period. However, an earlier medial date for some of the features cannot be ruled out. The sections of bank (centred at TF 8672 1725) may relate to a trackway recorded on Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6" map (S3) and the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition 25" map (S4).
