NHER 68208 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Earthworks and cropmarks of medieval to post medieval boundaries surrounding the site of Drayton Hall (NHER 2874)

Boundary ditches and banks of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1) and visualised lidar data (S2). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the earthwork features still survive. The boundaries probably represent a mixture of field boundaries and possible enclosures, but may also include some drainage features. They surround the medieval to post medieval moated site of Drayton Hall (NHER 2874); at least some of the boundaries may be contemporary with the hall but others may be later. To the west of the moated site, an earthwork bank and ditch, possibly at least in part related to a palaeochannel, have been mapped by extent, so that the cropmarks overlapping them can be clearly depicted. Features correlating with field boundaries still extant on 1940s aerial photographs (such as S3) have been excluded from the mapping.
