Map

April 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
A rectilinear enclosure of unknown date is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1-S3). Its function is also unknown. Its morphology is such that it could feasibly be of Iron Age to Roman date, and material of this date has been found in the vicinity (NHER 60320 for example). The cropmark of the west side of the enclosure is partially confused by almost correlating (in part) with a former field boundary (depicted in historical maps, such as the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map S4). Similarly, a possible entrance in its eastern end may instead be a truncation caused by a later field boundary, also depicted on the same map.
