Full Description
October 2015. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of new garage and cart shed adjacent to existing outbuildings at Old Hall Farm, Tasburgh.
Although the footing trenches encountered the natural boulder clay no archaeologically-significant remains were observed. The only feature present was a service trench containing a salt-glazed ceramic pipe. Although the base of this trench had been lined with hard, unfrogged, handmade bricks the pipe was of probable mid-20th-century date. There was evidence for significant recent disturbance, with a mixed deposit of gravel and rubble lying directly above the nature clay. This material contained Fletton-type bricks of mid-20th-century date, suggesting it had resulted from the demolition of nearby agricultural buildings.
