Summary

A section of a probable post medieval parish boundary is seen as a low earthwork and cropmark on visualised lidar data and aerial photographs. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the feature still survives as a very low earthwork. The feature follows the alignment of the parish boundary between the parishes of Bradenham and Scarning.

Map

A section of a probable post medieval parish boundary is seen as a low earthwork and cropmark on recent (2017) visualised lidar data and aerial photographs (S1-S3). The feature is visible as an extant earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S1). The feature is subsequently partially levelled and survives as a very low earthwork on the recent (2017) visualised lidar data (S2). The feature is also visible as a soilmark and a cropmark on aerial photographs taken in 1971 and 2022 (S2 and S4). Although the feature is visible as a cropmark on recent aerial photographs (S4), it is likely that the feature still survives as a very low earthwork. The feature follows the alignment of the parish boundary between the parishes of Bradenham and Scarning. The alignment of the parish boundary is also depicted on the readily available historic maps (S5-S6). The parish boundary is likely to be post medieval in date. However, an earlier medieval date for the feature cannot be ruled out.
