Full Description
March 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
An earthwork mound of an unknown date is visible on visualised lidar data. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the feature still survives as a low earthwork. It is possible that the mound may relate to a Bronze Age round barrow. A further Bronze Age round barrow (NHER 13546) has been previously recorded approximately 460m to the west. The feature is also within the registered park and garden (list entry 1000268; NHER 30469) of Lexham hall (NHER 4089). It is therefore possible that the mound could relate to a post medieval parkland feature. Finally, the mound is in close proximity to a possible post medieval extraction pit (not mapped; centred at approximately TF 8712 1756) which is also visible on the visualised lidar data. It is less likely, although cannot be ruled out, that the mound may relate to a post medieval spoil heap associated with the nearby pit.
