Full Description
June 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
An earthwork bank, section of ditch (since levelled) and possible low earthwork ridge and furrow, all of a probable medieval to post medieval date, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and on visualised lidar data (S1-S3). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017), it is likely that the earthworks visible on the visualised lidar data still survive. The section of bank and ditch are visible on S1. The earthworks appear to have been levelled by 1968 as the features are not visible on S2. The section of bank may survive as a very low spread earthwork visible on S3. The section of bank and ditch may relate to a former medieval to post medieval field boundary or possible a medieval plough headland. The area of ridge and furrow is visible as a low earthwork on S3. However, it is possible that the features could relate to modern agricultural processes rather than medieval to post medieval ridge and furrow.
