Full Description
January 1987. Observation of sewer laying in northern part of Blackfriars Street (previously Peacock Street, previously Rotten Row) revealed archaeology 3m deep, much of it was waterlogged and appeared to consist of an homogenous black silty loam.
Running water was observed to enter the southern end of the trench from the northwest and leave by the southeast.
Possibly the Dalimund stream?
Deposit bottomed on to natural gravel (see Whitefriars NHER 00784).
Compiled by B. Ayers (NAU).
