Full Description
October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Areas F78 and F79).
This survey identified no potentially archaeologically-significant responses.
A number of scattered discrete dipolar anomalies are likely to represent ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The remaining discrete anomalies are all of probable geological origin.
There was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with a number of fragmentary cropmarks of possible medieval to post-medieval date now mapped at this location (NHER 36453). There was also no evidence for remains associated with a north-west to south-east aligned cropmark in the north-east corner of the site that is one of several thought to represent a much more extensive boundary ditch of medieval to post-medieval date (NHER 67068).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F130; Trenches 113-114).
Two trenches were excavated at this location, both which were positioned to target cropmarks identified by an initial aerial imagery assessment. The first was placed to coincide with two fragmentary cropmarks at TG 2012 2895 (both part of the group of potentially medieval to post-medieval features recorded as NHER 36453). Only a single undated ditch was recorded, which coincided with the northernmost of the two cropmarks.
The second trench was placed to investigate a north-west to south-east aligned cropmark in the north-east corner of the site that is one of several thought to represent a more extensive boundary of medieval to post-medieval date (NHER 67068). A corresponding ditch was identified (which had been recut on at least one occasion), but unfortunately finds were limited to a single fragment of undatable fired clay. A parallel ditch of similar proportions was though identified to the south of this feature, which contained a single post-medieval pottery sherd. Between these two ditches was what appeared to be a much more substantial linear feature that was approximately 7m wide and more than 1m deep. No finds were recovered from this feature.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
