Map

October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F76).
This survey revealed little of potential archaeological interest.
Although a number of linear anomalies were recorded these are all thought to represent drains. The only other response of note in an area of magnetic disturbance at the extreme western end of the site. This coincides with one of three water-filled ponds or former quarry pits shown at this location on the Ordnance Survey First Edition Six-inch map (S1).
A number of scattered discrete dipolar anomalies are likely to represent ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The remaining discrete anomalies are all of probable geological origin.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F133; Trenches 459-462).
Four trenches excavated in the eastern half of this site revealed three ditches – two aligned north-west to south-east (potentially elements of the same feature) and one north-north-east to south-south-west. None produced any dating evidence.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.
