Map

October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F75).
This survey of the main part portion of the site revealed little of archaeological interest.
A north-to-south aligned linear anomaly corresponds with a former field boundary depicted on the Blickling tithe map.
A large area of magnetic disturbance at the northern edge of the site coincides with one of three water-filled ponds or former quarry pits shown at this location on the Ordnance Survey First Edition Six-inch map (S1).
A number of scattered discrete dipolar anomalies are likely to represent ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The remaining discrete anomalies are all of probable geological origin.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.

May 2020-January 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F137).
This survey of the southernmost part of site also identified little of archaeological interest.
The only response of note is a second north-to-south aligned linear anomaly, which also corresponds with a former field boundary depicted on the Blickling tithe map.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Areas F136 and F137; Trenches 463-469).
The seven trenches excavated revealed a number of ditches and a single large probable extraction pit.
Four of the five ditches recorded were aligned north-to-south, with two of these features corresponding with former field boundaries depicted on the Blickling tithe map. No finds were recovered from these ditches. The fifth ditch was aligned north-west to south-east and was therefore potentially of an earlier date, although this also produced no dating evidence.
The one discrete feature was a large probable extraction pit partially exposed close to the north-eastern end of the site. No finds were recovered during the investigation of this pit.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.
