Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2020/2021 identified no potentially archaeologically-significant responses, with the only anomaly of note being a localised area of magnetic disturbance likely to represent an infilled pit or pond of relatively recent date. Subsequent limited trial trenching had similarly negative results, with the single trench excavated revealing only a probable palaeochannel.

Map

May 2020-January 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F141).
This survey identified nothing of likely archaeological interest, with the only response of note being a localised area of magnetic disturbance likely to represent an infilled pit or pond of relatively recent date (although no such feature can be seen on the available late 19th-century and early 20th-century mapping).
The one linear anomaly recorded is thought to be associated with recent agricultural activity. A number of scattered discrete dipolar anomalies are likely to represent ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The remaining discrete anomalies are all of probable geological origin.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F141; Trench 482).
The single trench excavated at this location revealed only a probable palaeochannel. This feature was though found to contain a small amount of iron slag. Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
