Full Description
January 2014. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site (western area).
This survey identified nothing of definite archaeological interest. The only responses of note were a 'staple'-shaped positive anomaly and a short linear anomaly running adjacent to its eastern edge. These could represent archaeologically-significant remains, although it is thought that they were more likely to be the result of recent horticultural activity.
Overall this area was moderately 'noisy', with a number of intense magnetic anomalies likely to have been caused by ferrous debris within the soil. Underground pipes were also identified.
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 7 October 2024.
January 2015. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of part of proposed development site (Trench 1).
The single trench excavated at this location was positioned to coincide with the group of anomalies of uncertain nature identified by the preceding geophysical survey. No archaeologically-significant features or deposits were exposed and no finds recovered.
See report (S2) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 7 October 2024.
