Map

February-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development area (Field 9).
This survey identified no potentially archaeologically-significant responses. The only anomalies recorded are a series of striations thought to reflect plough lines
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 28 October 2024.

March-July 2023. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development area (Trenches 34-36 and 43-49).
The ten trenches excavated revealed a number of ditches and pits, the majority of which produced little or no dating evidence.
The ditches were all aligned roughly north-to south or north-north-west to south-south-east. Finds were limited to a single presumably residual prehistoric flint flake and a post-medieval iron horseshoe.
All but one of the pits lay in a single cluster at the southern end of the site. These produced no finds.
There was no evidence for sub-surface remains associated with the Attleborough/Old Buckenham, which coincided with several trenches and has followed this line since at least the mid 19th century.
See report (S2) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 23 October 2024.
