Full Description
May 2020-January 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F086).
This survey identified a number of parallel north-north-east to south-south-west aligned linear anomalies likely to represent former field boundaries. One of several at the eastern end of the site corresponds with a former boundary depicted on the North Walsham tithe map (S1). Two of the linear anomalies in this part of the site are also associated with cropmarks identified by a preceding review of the available aerial imagery (part of a group now recorded as NHER 65843).
A number of scattered discrete dipolar anomalies are likely to represent ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The remaining discrete anomalies are all of probable geological origin.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F086; Trenches 328 and 329).
The westernmost of the two trenches excavated at this location revealed three ditches, two aligned north-west to south-east and one north-to-south. The latter contained single sherds of medieval and post-medieval pottery but the north-west to south-east aligned features produced no datable finds, with only animal bone recovered.
The easternmost trench revealed a single north-north-east to south-south-west aligned ditch at a point where both linear cropmarks and geophysical anomalies had been recorded. Although no dating evidence was recovered this feature also coincides with the line of a former field boundary shown on the North Walsham tithe map (S1).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
