Full Description
March 2018. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The five trenches excavated revealed little in the way of significant remains. The limited number of features recorded included two ditches, one aligned north-east to south-west and the other north-west to south-east. These produced no dating evidence, with only a small amount of animal bone recovered. An elongated, steep-sided pit adjacent to one of these ditches was also undated. The only other feature uncovered was a modern pit.
The northernmost of the trenches coincided with an earthwork bank visible on aerial photographs (part of a group of probable medieval to post-medieval features recorded as NHER 57474) but no corresponding remains were identified.
No unstratified finds were recovered.
See report (S1) for further details.
