NHER 68788 (Find Spot record) - Prehistoric and medieval to post-medieval finds

29 April 2022. Unsystematic Fieldwalking.
Molehills in northern part of field examined as part of National Lottery Heritage Fund funded 'The Past is All Around Us' project. Finds recovered included:
1 undatable burnt flint and 1 oyster shell.
8 medieval pottery sherds.
7 medieval/post-medieval Collyweston stone roof tile fragments.
5 post-medieval pottery sherds and 2 clay tobacco pipe stem fragments.
1 post-medieval/modern pottery sherd.
Modern pottery, nails, glass and ceramic building material were also recovered but not recorded.

2-3 July 2022. Test Pitting.
Excavation of two test pits as part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund funded 'The Past is All Around Us' project (TP2 and TP4).
Test Pit TP2 at [1] produced the following finds:
2 undated iron nails, 3 iron unidentified objects, 3 animal bone fragments, 4 oyster shells and 1 cockle shell.
1 prehistoric flint flake.
2 medieval pottery sherds and 1 brick fragment.
1 medieval/post-medieval Collyweston stone roof tile.
8+ post-medieval pottery sherds, 1 brick fragment, 3 pantile fragments and 7 clay tobacco pipe fragments.

Test Pit TP4 at [2] produced the following finds:
1 undated iron hinge and 1 animal bone fragment.
5 medieval pottery sherds.
14 medieval/post-medieval Collyweston stone roof tiles.
11+ post-medieval pottery sherds, 1 pantile fragment, 7 clay tobacco pipe fragments and 1 lead window came.

Various late post-medieval to modern pottery sherds, iron objects and glass fragments were also recovered but not recorded in detail.
