Full Description
April-May 2017. Test Pit.
Excavation of test pit as part of the Norfolk Archaeological Trust's 'Imagined Land' project - a community archaeology project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (Test Pit 2).
A natural clay deposit was encountered at a depth of 0.75m, which was overlain by a fairly thick silty clay subsoil. Finds recovered included:
5 undatable iron nail, 7 burnt flints and 7 animal bones.
1 ?Saxon/medieval lump of iron slag.
2 medieval/post-medieval brick fragments.
2 post-medieval clay tobacco pipe fragments.
5 post-medieval/modern pottery sherds, a button and 2 unidentified copper alloy objects.
