Summary

A test pit was dug at this location in 2017 as part of the Norfolk Archaeological Trust's 'Imagined Land' project. A loosely cobbled flint surface encountered at the interface between the topsoil and subsoil layers probably represented the remains of a post-medieval yard or trackway. Finds recovered included potentially Upper Palaeolithic and Mesolithic worked flints; burnt flints; Roman, Late Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval, post-medieval and post-medieval/modern pottery sherds; post-medieval brick and tile fragments; pieces of post-medieval clay tobacco pipe; post-medieval to modern bottle glass; a post-medieval slate pencil; a fragment of bone from the handle of a post-medieval knife; medieval/post-medieval iron nails; a post-medieval/modern iron horse-harness fitting; animal bones and oyster shells. Metal-detecting of the surrounding lawn recovered a post-medieval mount.
