Summary

A test pit was dug at this location in 2017 as part of the Norfolk Archaeological Trust's 'Imagined Land' project. Finds recovered included a small number of prehistoric worked flints; undatable burnt flints; medieval, medieval/post-medieval, post-medieval and post-medieval/modern pottery sherds; post-medieval brick and fragments; pieces of post-medieval clay tobacco pipe and bottle glass; a piece of possible iron smelting slag; post-medieval iron nails and undatable animal bone fragments and shells.

Excavation of test pit as part of the Norfolk Archaeological Trust's 'Imagined Land' project - a community archaeology project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (Test Pit 14).
This test pit reached a firm natural clay at a depth of 0.57m, which was overlain by a relatively sterile subsoil. Finds recovered included:
2 undatable burnt flints, a piece of possible iron smelting slag, oyster shell and cockle shell.
1 prehistoric flint flake and 2 shatter pieces.
1 medieval pottery sherd.
1 medieval/post-medieval pottery sherd.
15 post-medieval pottery sherds, 3 brick fragments, a roof tile fragment, 2 clay tobacco pipe fragments, a piece of bottle glass and 5 iron nails.
1 post-medieval/modern pottery sherd.
