NHER 68535 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Earthworks of possible medieval to post medieval field boundaries

The earthworks of possible boundary banks of an unknown, but possible medieval to post medieval date, are visible on visualised lidar data (S1). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the feature still survives as low earthworks. The features may relate to former medieval to post medieval field boundaries. The features are not recorded on the readily accessible historic maps such as S2-S4. The features are within an area of cropmark boundaries of an unknown date (NHER 68096) and are in close proximity to a Bronze Age barrow cemetery (NHER 68100) and a rectilinear enclosure of a probable Roman date (NHER 60529). Although the earthwork banks likely date to the medieval to post medieval period, an earlier date for the features cannot be ruled out. The sections of bank in the north of the area also follow the alignment of a Roman Road referred to as the Fen Causeway (NHER 2796). The northern features most likely relate to former field boundaries rather than sections of a Roman road.
