Full Description
February 2025. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of probable post medieval boundary banks and ditches or possible garden or parkland features are visible as earthworks on visualised lidar data(S3). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the features still survive as earthworks. The features may relate to former post medieval field boundaries or possibly to features relating to possible parkland or garden features. Although the features are likely to be post medieval in date, a medieval date for the features cannot be ruled out. The features are not recorded on the readily accessible historic maps such as S4. The earthworks appear to be cut by the earthworks of possible modern drainage ditches or earthworks associated with tree planting (not mapped; aligned approximately northwest to southeast across the area) visible on S1-S3. The possible boundaries are also in close proximity an area of possible medieval to post medieval ridge and furrow (NHER 69030).
