Map

March 2025. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Features relating to a probable medieval to post medieval settlement, field boundaries and an enclosure are visible as cropmarks and soilmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The site of a medieval settlement has previously been recorded here on the basis of field walking finds and documentary evidence (NHER 25546). The features include the soilmarks of a possible building, evident as a rectilinear arrangement of broad embanked features in the northwestern corner of the site, an adjacent ditch, possibly representing a field boundary, and, on the other side of the ditch and on a different alignment, a rectilinear ditched enclosure and associated boundary ditches. The change in alignment between the two halves of the site suggests that more than one phase of activity is represented.
