19 January 1987. Conversation [1] on site at Norwich Corrugated Board Factory.
During excavation for stanchion pits to support roof in 1986 a massive flint wall was uncovered at a depth of 2m extending for at least a further 3m below the ground surface and widening. Wall running approximately parallel to Whitefriars and c.10m to the west of this street.Generally remains undamaged.

Observation in May 1985 by B. S. Ayers and J. E. Bown in the same factory when similar stanchion pits were being excavated at approximately 5m intervals some 5m east of Blackfriars Street (ex Peacock Street, ex Rotten Row) revealed water in all pits at a depth of 2m as far north as St. Saviour's Street (between grid references 23312 09210 and 23280 09260.
Possibly the Dalimund stream? See also Blackfriars Street (NHER 00778).
Staff fieldwork B. S. Ayers (NAU).
