Full Description
World War Two pillbox dug into north-west side of earthen mound thought to possibly represent the remains of a Bronze Age bowl barrow (NHER 1746).
Previously recorded under NHER 1746. Location approximate.
The bowl barrow was designated a Scheduled Monument in 1934 and its amended description now explicitly includes this pillbox - the relevant section being as follows:
"…Also included are the remains of a World War II pillbox inserted into the north west side of the mound overlooking the road and facing the coast. The pill box is octagonal in plan with a partly collapsed entrance on the south side and is constructed of concrete faced with brick."
Please consult the National Heritage List for England (S1) for the full Scheduling details.
