8December 2016. Desk-based Assessment.
Assessment of potential impact of proposed development.
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 3 June 2025.

September 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
This survey identified nothing of potential archaeological interest.
At the time of the survey the site was partly occupied by a tennis court and a bowling green, with clear signs of previous landscaping works.
There was significant magnetic noise across the site, which effectively masked much of the area examined. This was caused by both metal obstacles present of the site and sub-surface objects/debris. Zones of chaotically-arranged dipoles within the bowling ground and in the south-east part of the site are likely to represent areas of made ground. Four large ferrous features were recorded, the largest of which corresponds with the site of a large tree visible on aerial imagery. Two modern pipelines/cable were also identified.
See report (S2) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2018.260).
P. Watkins (HES), 3 June 2025.

October 2019. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The eight trenches excavated revealed no archaeological-significant features or deposits.
A reasonably thick subsoil was found to survive across much of the area examined. A notable exception was the bowling green, which was shown to have been previously stripped of soil, with modern makeup lying directly above the natural geological deposits.
No finds were recovered.
See report (S3) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2018.260).
