Summary

A watching brief maintained during limited groundworks at this site in 2021 recorded no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. There was therefore no evidence to suggest that the cemetery associated with nearby St Michael and All Angels’ Church (NHER 10040) had ever extended into this area.

Map

June-July 2021. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of an extension at the western end of the existing dwelling.
The foundation trenches excavated for the extension were sufficiently deep to encounter natural geological deposits but no archaeologically-significant features were noted. Shallower ground reduction within the footprint of the extension also revealed nothing of interest.
Various excavations to the south and south-west of the building for a sewage treatment plant and a foul water drainage field also exposed no archaeologically-significant remains.
No finds were recovered during these works.
See report (S1) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2021.119).
