Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2023 identified little of potential archaeological interest, the only responses of note being a series of parallel linear anomalies that potentially represent the traces of ridge and furrow cultivation. Subsequent limited trial trenching in 2025 recorded only an undated ditch.

Map

March 2023. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on route of proposed West Winch Housing Access Road (Section 5).
This survey identified nothing of definite archaeological interest.
A series of widely-spaced parallel linear anomalies were almost certainly the result of agricultural activity and it is suggested these could represent the traces of former ridge and furrow cultivation.
Scattered discrete ferrous anomalies were probably caused by ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris).
See report (S1) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2023.118).
