Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2016 recorded a number of linear anomalies. Two correspond with a former trackway shown on a 19th-century map, while another is likely to represent an infilled boundary ditch of uncertain age.

Map

February 2016. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Poringland to Whitlingham Rising Main pipeline (Field 3).
This survey identified a number of linear anomalies, including two adjacent north-north-east to south-south-west aligned responses in the central part of the field that correspond with a trackway shown on the Kirby Bedon tithe map (S1), the former position of which is marked by a line of tree on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S2). A number of other linear anomalies were recorded, included a north-to-south aligned response to the east of the trackway likely to represent an infilled boundary ditch of uncertain age. A north-north-east to south-south-west aligned anomaly was also noted close to the western edge of the field but is much weaker and potentially geological in origin. A single large discrete anomaly is also thought to have probably been caused by a geological feature of some kind.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
