Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2016 recorded a slightly curvilinear anomaly likely to represent an infilled field boundary ditch of uncertain age. A similarly-aligned response to the south corresponds with a former field boundary shown on a 19th-century map.

Map

February 2016. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Poringland to Whitlingham Rising Main pipeline (Field 4).
This survey identified a slightly curvilinear east-to-west aligned anomaly likely to represent an infilled boundary ditch. The age of this feature in uncertain, although its alignment is similar to a former field boundary that can be seen approximately 30m to the south on the Kirby Bedon tithe map (S1). A ditch associated with this boundary can also be faintly seen in the grey scale plots from the survey, although it is not highlighted in the interpretation.
Three discrete dipolar responses at the margins of the field were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
