Full Description
February 2016. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Poringland to Whitlingham Rising Main pipeline (Field 16).
This survey identified two linear anomalies, the most notable of which is a north-east to south-west aligned response at TG 2822 0331 that corresponds with a cropmark feature visible on aerial photographs of this location. This is part of a possible rectilinear enclosure recorded as NHER 52436. The second linear response is a roughly north-to-south aligned anomaly at TG 2833 0320 that probably relates to a former field boundary shown on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S1).
Various dipolar responses were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface, most likely modern debris.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 17 January 2026.
January-February 2017. Watching Brief.
Maintained during installation of Poringland to Whitlingham Rising Main pipeline (Site 3).
The monitoring of topsoil stripping along a 200m long section of the pipeline route recorded no archaeologically-significant features or deposits and no finds were recovered.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 17 January 2026.
