Full Description
March-May 2015. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of caravan and camping site.
No archaeologically-significant features or deposits were recorded. There was therefore no trace of surviving remains associated with two east-north-east to west-south-west aligned linear cropmarks mapped at the site of one of the new toilet blocks (part of a group of complex, likely multi-period remains recorded as NHER 1576).
Peat deposits were noted within the deeper excavations, interspersed with fine sand layers.
Unstratified finds were limited to an undatable iron nail.
See report (S1) for further details.
