Summary

A watching brief maintained during the excavation of a new soke dyke at this location between 2008 and 2010 recorded no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. Finds were largely limited to several prehistoric worked flints and post-medieval clay tobacco pipe fragments.

Monitoring of excavation of new soke dyke as part of the Broadland Flood Alleviation Project (Compartment 11).
No archaeologically-significant features or deposits were recorded at this location.
There was no evidence for surviving remains associated with a group of parallel linear earthworks and soilmarks visible on aerial photographs at TG 5160 1012, which potentially represented the traces of post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation (NHER 27385).
The work also revealed no evidence of features associated with linear earthworks visible on aerial photographs at TG 5192 1000 (Site 22; part of a group of probable post-medieval drains recorded as NHER 43482).
A small number of unstratified finds were recovered in the easternmost field (Site 23), including:
3 prehistoric flint flakes.
5 post-medieval clay tobacco pipe stem fragments.
1 modern wall tile and 2 lead fishing weights.
