Map

March-April 2023. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of new campsite.
The excavation of three service trenches and a drainage trench revealed a number of ditches, none of which produced any dating evidence. Several north-west to south-east and north-east to south-west features were though probably broadly contemporary.
There was evidence for at least a degree of vertical truncation across much of the site, with the natural geology deposits lying directly beneath the topsoil. The exception was the south-easternmost part of the site, where the surviving features were sealed by what was interpreted as an alluvial deposit.
No unstratified find were recovered.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
