Summary

A watching brief maintained during the creation of a temporary carparking area at this site in 2018 revealed little of archaeological interest – largely due to the limited nature of the groundworks. An area of brick and pamment floor represented the remnants of a small outbuilding shown on a late 19th-century map.

Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of temporary carparking area.
The site was subject to only minimal ground reduction, stripping being limited to the modern topsoil. As a result, little of archaeological interest was revealed. The only feature of note was an area of brick and pamment flooring at TG 1745 2780, which coincided with the site of a small structure shown on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25-inch map (S1).
No unstratified finds were recovered at this location.
