Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2017/2018 recorded a linear anomaly likely to represent an infilled field boundary or enclosure ditch. This feature corresponds with one of a number of fragmentary linear cropmarks noted on aerial images of this location (part of a group of potentially medieval to post-medieval remains recorded as NHER 65610).

Map

October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F73).
The most notable response was a north-east to south-west aligned linear anomaly at TG 1808 2758 which coincided with a linear cropmark visible on aerial images of this location (part of a group of potentially medieval to post-medieval boundary ditches recorded as NHER 65610). This anomaly appeared to turn to the south at its southern end, suggesting it had formed the corner of a field or small enclosure.
There was though no evidence for remains associated with a number of other cropmarks now mapped at this location, including several perpendicular features that are also recorded as part of NHER 65610 and a small group of potentially earlier features recorded as NHER 65611.
Although numerous discrete patches of magnetic disturbance were recorded these are all thought to be the result of variations in the underlying geology. Scattered discrete dipolar anomalies were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
