Full Description
October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F68).
This survey identified various fragmentary north-east to south-west and north-west to south-east aligned linear anomalies likely to represent infilled ditches. A number of these features correspond with linear cropmarks visible on aerial images of this location – all of which are thought to potentially represent elements of a medieval to post-medieval field system (NHER 12974). The linear anomalies not associated with mapped cropmarks include a number of features that almost certainly represent elements of the same field system. One notable exception is an east-to-west aligned linear anomaly in the western half of the site.
Although numerous discrete patches of magnetic disturbance were recorded these are all thought to be the result of variations in the underlying geology. Scattered dipolar anomalies were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F153; Trenches 506-512).
The seven trenches excavated at this location uncovered three north-east to south-west aligned ditches that coincided with cropmarks thought to represent elements of a medieval to post-medieval field system (NHER 12974), two of which were also associated with anomalies recorded by the preceding geophysical survey. Unfortunately, none produced any dating evidence. Other features recorded included three additional ditches (one aligned north-east to south-west, one north-north-west to south-south-east and one east-to-west), a steep-sided pit and a pit or ditch terminus – all of which were also undated.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
