Map

February 2025. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of part of large proposed development site (Field 2; Trenches 20-34).
The 15 trenches excavated at this location revealed little in the way of archaeologically-significant remains. The only feature recorded was a north-north-east to south-south-west aligned ditch seen in two trenches at the western edge of the site. This produced no finds but its position in relation to the adjacent extant field boundary suggests it was probably of relatively recent date. A sample taken from its fill produced negligible charcoal and a small quantity of indeterminate charred stems, along with waterlogged goosefoot/orache and water plantain seeds and cereal culm nodes.
See report (S1) for further details.
