Map

February-March 2018. Watching Brief.
Maintained during excavation of trench for new fibre optic cable between Felbrigg Hall and the junction of Park Road and The Street, Aylmerton.
Two features were recorded in relative close proximity at this location, although in both cases it was impossible to determine whether they were ditches or discrete pits. A single medieval pottery sherd was recovered from the fill of one of these features but the other produced no dating evidence. It is though noted that their fills were similar, suggesting they were potentially of a similar age.
A small number of unstratified finds were retrieved in the vicinity of the feature containing medieval pottery, including an additional medieval pottery sherd, a medieval clench bolt and a nail of probable post-medieval date.
See report (S1) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2019.98).
